What technical knowledge in project management should a Project Manager have?

According to the PMI study, organizations that demonstrate high performance in their projects in today's complex environment have in common the Creation of a culture of project and program management with committed project sponsors.

All the material and processes collected in the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBoK) are aimed at the professional to know and learn the necessary techniques to help plan, implement, direct, manage, and control a project of any scale from beginning to end. The PM should master modern project management tools, such as: Detailed structures of work organization, distribution of resources, Gant Diagrams, mathematical models for the distribution of time in the different stages of the project, estimation and management of costs, and engineering of the economy of the project, among many others.

Another important aspect is the knowledge about risk management, because in each project there will always be a large risk component, and for this reason managers, investors and members of the boards of directors of companies are looking for PMP professionals who can do excellent risk analysis, who have ways to minimize and control it.

This technical knowledge was the body of traditional knowledge for a technician who managed projects throughout the last century, however, it is not enough to make the most of a project in today's changing environment.
